Twomey takes home Grand Prix title
The inaugural Liverpool International Horse Show (1-3 January) came to a close yesterday with Amerigo and Veredus ambassador Billy Twomey winning the Grand Prix.
Riding Diaghilev, the partnership finished on a jump off time of 34.86, ahead of John Whitaker and Ornellaia in second.
The track caused a few problems for the 31 competitors with four refusals at the fourth fence although a third did still go clear in the first round. Whitaker clocked a time of 36.47 which looked to have been enough but Twomey had other ideas and produced an assured round to take the title.
The show has been a huge success in its first year, attracting sell out crowds and top riders, and is set to return in 2017.
